An often overlooked item in your babies nursery is the crib mattress. We have seen people buy top of the line nursery cribs and then buy a cheap mattress to put in it.  The crib mattress should be given more consideration. It is one of only a few things that is actually for the baby and not for making things easier for the parents. For that reason if the budget needs to be cut somewhere it should not be the mattress. If you think about it, your baby is not going to care if they are in a pink or blue room or in a fancy round crib. Hey are not going to care if the crib made of oak or plywood or if there is storage underneath. Those considerations are for the parents’ likes and dislikes.

Statistics say that an infant will spend 70% of their time and a toddler will spend 50% of their time on a crib mattress. Don’t you want a quality mattress for your baby? There are two major types of crib mattresses sold. One is an innerspring mattress, similar to the mattress on a standard bed. The other is a polyurethane foam mattress. Both types have a range of quality. When considering a foam mattress one thing to remember is it should be firm, heavier in weight and quickly take back it’s shape when a weight is removed from it.

The fact is that it is difficult to be able to see the quality in a mattress since the part that matters is covered. The best thing you can do is buy a reputable manufacturers product. You can also check the label to see if the manufacturer is a member of the Juvenile Products Manufactures Association or that they carry a JPMA seal. Companies that are associated with JPMA must meet certain quality and professional standards for their products.

At MyKidsNursery we offer a large selection of crib mattresses. Styles and brands change daily so check back often.
