Finding the right crib furniture for your babies nursery can be a challenge. There are many different manufacturers, styles, colors and themes. Prices can range from under $100 to several thousand depending on your taste and desire. Remember that your baby is not going to care what kind of crib they are sleeping in so this item is all about you!
The thing to remember is that you need to buy a crib that is safe for your baby. All new cribs sold in the United States will meet minimum government requirements so as long as you assemble according to the manufacturers instructions then the crib will be safe. There are a few things you can check. Make sure the mattress fits firmly in the crib frame. It will not be very long before your baby is able to sit up and then stand up in the crib. Make sure you purchase a model that has adjustable height for the mattress to keep your baby safe. If the crib is the type that has a lowering side, push and rattle it to make sure it doesn’t open too easily. The distance between the slats on the sides should not be more than 2-3/8” or the size of a soda can. Again new cribs sold in the US will meet these standards.
